Testimonials for Our Coaching and Private Lessons

“We were both beginners and found our instructor’s coaching and advice hugely helpful. And best of all, we had a terrific time in the process.

“I was specifically interested in consistency and accuracy, and he gave me a few key tips which were perfect. I found my confidence has increased substantially after only a few hours of instruction.

“We’re both throwing straighter and longer and having way more fun. Thanks!”

“My lessons with School of Disc Golf far exceeded expectations. I’ve been playing for about 2.5 years and had built some bad habits, but did not have any clue as to how to go about identifying and fixing them.

“My coach broke proper form down to very simple and understandable mechanics, and over the course of 3 hours I found myself throwing from a standstill almost as far – and much more accurately – than I had before. I walked away with a much better understanding of where I need improvement and the necessary tools to practice on my own.

On top of it all Jack (my coach) was a very cool guy who has an innate ability to teach – It was a very enjoyable and informative experience that I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone else in a similar situation to my own.”

John J., Berkeley, CA

“Your lesson has really helped Kevin (age 11) and me along.  Kevin parred Villa Maria on Christmas Eve.  Then I parred it on New Years Day.  The next day I got a hole-in-one on 6!  Quite exciting for both of us to be able to keep the disc in play now.”

Advance warning – PUMPED STUDENT!

“Last night was our first night-frolf event of the year.  I took the two points from the last session with my coach, and did some practicing into my net. It worked! A real breakthrough moment and I now find myself seeking that ‘sweet spot’ vs. trying to throw as hard as I can.

I only went -1, but I won, and I have added a very significant amount of distance! I took out Udisc to track one of my drives, which (while still not far lol) is way farther than I’ve thrown before on that hole – 365 feet.  Sadly, it went onto the road as I wasn’t expecting to be able to do that, but it was my favorite road penalty of my life, lol.”

Brett B., Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

“I was a high-level Ultimate & disc golf player in the 1970s back when we used Wham-O 119-gram and Ultimate frisbees to play golf with and stopped playing in the early 1980s.

“I recently started back up with disc golf and was searching for coaching help to ensure I was making the correct adjustments. I found Jack and we recently conducted a virtual putting lesson while I have been in Mexico during the COVID19 travel restrictions. It was a powerful session and worthwhile investment.

“Getting good coaching is a critical phase in improvement in any endeavor and one that all disc golfers should seek out. I highly recommend School of Disc Golf’s virtual disc golf coaching.”

Roger S., Mexico City, Mexico

“Jack is an excellent coach and teacher. During our session he was able to help me get more comfortable in my stance and achieve much more accurate and reliable throws! Going into the lesson I was not confident in my backhand shots and now they have become the most reliable part of my game. This is all thanks to Jack and School of Disc Golf!”

“I really had a great time, and I look forward to reading the Three Paths to Better Disc Golf book before I pass it on as a gift. Both the course and your guidance and instruction met my high expectations. Could not have enjoyed it more. Would definitely recommend it to someone else traveling to see the course.”

“We just had a fantastic lesson with Jack from School of Disc Golf. I learned how to get distance on my drive (Pari) and I learned a forehand! I think we learned a lot of things that will help our game all around (Greg).”

Pari & Greg, San Francisco, CA

“I’ve been playing disc golf for about two years, picking up tips from videos and watching others play and one day in April 2014 after playing a particularly dissatisfying round I banged “I need disc golf lessons!” into Google and spied a link for the School of Disc Golf. I read some of the articles and was hooked, and luckily for me I had a business trip scheduled for the Bay Area (I live in Pennsylvania) so I contacted them and they replied very quickly and we scheduled a lesson.

“I had sent my teacher a laundry list of things to for us to work on and we covered them all, from proper grips to better flight control and aim to learning the forehand throw to approach and putting, not to mention elbow pain relief!

Jack’s approach to teaching was very calm and precise and he provided good visual aids. I saw immediate improvement! I knew I wouldn’t retain all the information Jack provided but since I live so far away he offered to answer further questions via e-mail as needed, a very nice gesture. So, since the lesson:

  1. My drives are more powerful and accurate. The straight line thing Jack teaches is spot on. Add a decent shoulder turn and viola!
  2. I use 2 grips now, one for power, one for approach and putt.
  3. I have a couple of “get out of jail” shots in my arsenal.
  4. Improvement in the forehand (just gotta practice)
  5. More confidence in approach shots, in fact I have sunk a couple of 60-70 footers!
  6. Sinking 30 foot putts more consistently.
  7. Less elbow inflammation.

“This was well worth my effort and investment and I now play more enjoyable and confident rounds. Still have work to do but that’s golf! Thanks, Jack, for a great lesson and a good time!”

John M., Philadelphia, PA

Family lesson

“We now LOVE disc golf, thanks to School of Disc Golf! The whole family had a blast, ages 3-57! We plan to get out and try out our new skills tomorrow! What a fun, fantastic teacher and coach Jack we had! I highly recommend School of Disc Golf!”

Wendy Rae J., Boulder Creek, CA

“It only took one day of disc golf to get me obsessed with the game. I began playing more frequently, getting better scores and longer drives each time. However, as a very competitive female, I knew I could be even better if only I had more instruction on the fundamentals of the game.

“I started researching techniques, watching video tutorials and trying to understand how to buy discs but it was all very overwhelming. Then one day I stumbled onto School of Disc Golf, contacted them for a private lesson, and never looked back since.

“My instructor made sure we covered everything and anything I wanted to know more about. He taught me the fundamentals of a proper backhand and sidearm throws, various techniques for putt and approach, and other mental aspects of the game that have really helped me improve and gain consistency.

“Jack (my coach) has never hesitated to answer any questions I have, even well after my lesson. He is very passionate about the sport and helping other people get better, and it really shows in his lessons.

“Thanks Jack! Now I can keep up with the boys!”

Alexandra M, San Jose, CA

“I had been playing Disc Golf for about 3 months and had several problems: constantly sore shoulder; very inconsistent release point on my drives; couldn’t drive farther than about 275 feet. I’d read through tons of disc golf forums, watched videos, had taken video of myself and watched it, but none of that really was helping me to get my drive form corrected.

“That led me to find and contact School of Disc Golf for a private lesson. In a two-hour lesson, my coach was able to dissect my form and show me how to easily improve it. Within the first hour, I was already seeing a significant difference in my drives. He also showed me several techniques for practicing that form to help turn it from something I’m thinking about to muscle memory.

“He was really proficient in being able to explain exactly how the parts of my old form were affecting my throws, and how his recommendations would improve that. He had great analogies that really made it easy to understand WHY these changes would help. Also just a really nice guy who is very easy to talk to.

“Thanks Jack!”

“Thanks again for the great lessons. They’ve made a significant difference in my game and in addition to improving my skills, I see my attitude about disc golf changing for the better. I’ll certainly recommend you to others. When we get back from France, I’ll be signing up for additional lessons and will see if I can my wife to do the same.”

Steve J., Santa Cruz, CA

“I had played disc golf before once or twice and had fun, then went a few years without playing again. When I decided to start playing again and wanted to learn how to throw farther and score better, I contacted the School of Disc Golf. My coach worked with me one-on-one and helped me understand the correct techniques for throwing backhand, throwing forehand, putting, and also explained many other little details that helped me get better much quicker than if I had tried to figure it out on my own.

“I recommend School of Disc Golf for anyone who wants to get the most out of disc golf.”
